MACTIVE – McMaster’s Healthy Workplace Committee puts on an annual MACtive Challenge. The challenge includes weekly prizes, activities, giveaways, health tips and of course the opportunity to improve your fitness. - Join Nature@McMaster every Wednesday from 12:30 – 1:30 during the fall for a mental health break, some fresh air, and to get your body moving. Meet outside the SWELL loung (lower level of MUSC by Underground Printing). No registration required.
- Every winter, employees have the opportunity to include physical activity in their week by participating in the Healthy Workplace Walking Group. The walks take place every Tuesday and Thursday.
GOOD FOOD BOX – The Good Food Box is a non-profit project run by Mac Bread Bin in partnership with Grace Lutheran Church to provide local, affordable, seasonal produce to the McMaster Community. HOSPITALITY SERVICES – offers an evolving variety of world cuisine options to accommodate diverse needs including vegetarian choices, international food menus, healthy options, quick snacks and made-to-order entrees that are readily available seven days a week. Staff and Faculty are offered a 10% discount on all central campus food purchases with a Meal Card. They also offer consultation if you require accommodations to your diet and to top it off, they have an Eco-Takeout container program at some locations.
MAC FARMSTAND – is a student-run campus farmers market aiming to provide students, faculty, and staff access to fresh and local fruit and vegetables. Throughout the school year, they host a variety of events that promote seasonal, sustainable eating. Stop by the market in MUSC Marketplace every Wednesday and Thursday from April – November between 11am and 4pm to purchase some fresh fruits and veggies!
NUTRITIONAL COACHING – is offered free of charge through Homewood Health to eligible faculty and staff. A registered dietitian will conduct an assessment of your dietary needs and work with you to develop personalized food plans, provide nutritional information, and offer advice and coaching, all by phone.
UNION MARKET – is the perfect one-stop-shop for everything that you need on campus. They have affordable bagels, snacks, sandwiches as well as fair trade coffee and chocolate bars. WEIGHT WATCHERS AT WORK – After a long partnership, Weight Watchers Canada, announced that the Weight Watchers at Work program has been temporarily cancelled while they rebrand and develop a new workplace program. Their goal is to relaunch a new offering in 2020. In the meantime, McMaster’s employee discount program, Venngo WorkPerks has a Weight Watchers discount available to employees. Please note the employee discounts are always changing and this discount may not be available at all times.
The Health Risk Assessment is comprehensive – allowing you to identify your health and wellness barriers and helping you to get back to being your best. The HRA looks at four specific dimensions of wellness: work-life balance, anxiety, depression, and stress. The interface provides you with an easy way to access year-to-year comparisons and a more complete snapshot of your overall health status. It is a screening tool designed to be used in consultation with your health professional.
The summary results you receive are not a health diagnosis, but a screening of your health and wellness, to help you identify your risk factors.

ALCOHOL, DRUG AND GAMBLING CLINICS & PROGRAMS – The City of Hamilton provides counselling for those struggling with alcohol, drugs and gambling. SMOKING CESSATION – McMaster offers many resources for staff and faculty looking to quit and remain tobacco-free. Through community partnerships, McMaster offers programs, benefits and workshops to help and support employees looking to go tobacco-free. TOBACCO AND SMOKE-FREE CAMPUS – McMaster is now Ontario’s first 100% tobacco and smoke-free campus. Since January 1, 2018, all McMaster owned-properties have banned smoking devices to ensure health and wellness for all members of the McMaster community. JUMPSTART YOUR WELLNESS – Ready to take your health and well-being to the next level? Our Jumpstart your Wellness Program may be what you are looking for. With the support of a certified life coach, our program uses a comprehensive online, self-directed approach to support behaviour change. You will have access to an online wellness handbook, healthy living tools and resources and objective and goal setting exercises.
