BUS PULL – Pull4Mac kicks off the McMaster United Way Campaign and Healthy Workplace Month. McMaster staff, students, faculty and alumni can sign up in teams of 10-12 people. These teams work together to pull the McMaster Shuttle Bus 100 feet on McMaster’s central campus. 100% of the funds raised go to the United Way of Halton & Hamilton. CONNECTME – The ConnectME committee strives to unite McMaster Faculty and Staff with campus events, entertainment, and employee perks, ultimately showcasing everything that makes the university an exciting place to work, while continuing to build a strong community spirit within the organization. From movie nights to ice cream socials or sporting events, ConnectMe is a great way to get involved and stay connected at McMaster.

HEALTHY WORKPLACE MONTH – McMaster is a community that is committed to the health and wellness of its employees. Every October, during Healthy Workplace Month, we have an opportunity to reflect on our healthy habits. Each week, there will be fun programming and resources intended to help employees learn more about a variety of different healthy lifestyle choices.

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE – Faculty and staff are invited to the Annual Holiday Open House. Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation for Hamilton Food Share. Every dollar donated provides $5 worth of food. Non-perishable food items are also accepted.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL – The annual Ice Cream Social and Employee Services Fair is a great way for faculty and staff to learn more about the many events and services offered at McMaster. CAREER COACHING – Ready to take your career to the next level…but not sure what that might look like? Working with a career specialist can help you identify and articulate your skills, aptitudes, values, personality traits, and interests as they relate to career choice. The EFAP Life Smart Program offers career coaching to help McMaster employees with career planning that matches their goals.

EMPLOYEE CAREER SERVICES – Employee Career Services supports and empowers employees with strategies to achieve personal and professional potential. Employee Career Services offers one-on-one coaching as well as team sessions and workshops. These services will provide you with the professional training you need to improve your interviewing, self-marketing, and networking skillset. From leadership coaching to retirement planning, Employee Career Services offers support to individuals at all levels and throughout all career stages.

EQUITY & INCLUSION WORKSHOPS – The Equity and Inclusion Office (EIO) works closely with staff, students and faculty members to advance equity and inclusion by promoting an environment of respect, safety, collegiality and openness. The EIO has many events and workshops to engage staff and faculty members through education. Some of these events include workshops on how individuals can support survivors of sexual violence, and sessions on how managers can respond when intimate partner violence impacts the workplace, and many more.

EMPLOYEE VOLUNTEERING – We are committed to creating and linking McMaster employees to meaningful volunteer opportunities which allows for personal and professional development, provides networking and collaborative opportunities across the University, mobilizes and supports community-driven change, and builds partnerships with the greater community. McMaster employees looking to help strengthen McMaster’s community can volunteer on one of our volunteer committees.

INSPIRING FROM WITHIN – Inspiring from Within (IFW) is an employee professional development conference brought to you by Human Resources Services and the Inspiring from Within Organizing Committee. This highly popular annual conference is available to all McMaster employee groups. Participants enjoy a fun day of personal and professional development, networking with colleagues, and learning from both the keynote speaker and breakout sessions.

Engagement surveys provide the opportunity to understand and identify employee concerns and interest through an anonymous feedback format. This enables employees to provide their insights to improve job satisfaction and the development of a healthy and “engaged” work environment. Employee engagement surveys are currently completed in several departments across McMaster.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH SERVICES – At McMaster University we provide programs and services to help employee’s lead healthier lives, in and out of the workplaceEmployee Health Services(EHS) is committed to supporting employees in a healthy and safe return to work following an injury or illness, facilitating workplace accommodations, and fostering healthier work environments.

HEALTH & SAFETY – Environmental and Occupational Health Support Services (EOHSS) offers both in-class and online training sessions to communicate information regarding health and safety. There are seven training modules required for all employees at the university. In addition, it is also required that McMaster employees complete a job hazard analysis of main activities in the workplace. Click here to determine which courses you are required to take.

SHIFT WORKER SUPPORT – If you work at times outside of 7:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m., then you know first-hand the challenge of fighting the body’s natural wake-sleep pattern, and the strain shift work can put on your health, well-being, family, and social life. We can help you find solutions to your unique challenges. The EFAP Life Smart Program offers Shift Worker Support to ensure McMaster employees stay healthy and safe while working shifts!

STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH & WELL-BEING – McMaster University appreciates the concern that faculty and staff have for the well-being of students and values the role they play in identifying students who are in difficulty. Recognizing the signs of emotional distress and responding with interest and concern may be a critical factor in helping students resolve the problems that are interfering with their academic achievement. The Student Wellness Centre has resources available to McMaster faculty and staff to use in identifying and referring students in difficulty.

BIKE SHARE – McMaster Bike Share has been a great success on campus. Social Bicycles are a great way to commute without hassle. Bicycles are available at several ‘hubs’ on campus, can be rented out for any amount of time, and can be reserved to ensure a bike is available at a hub near you. McMaster students and staff are eligible for a discount. Don’t have a bike for Bike to Work Day? Rent a SoBi Bike!

CARPOOLING – McMaster University has a well-established carpool parking program where two or more individuals can register for a carpool permit from Parking & Transit Services. Registered carpools at McMaster are eligible for a designated parking space and a limited number of reduced-rate parking vouchers to be used on days when one member needs to take their own vehicle to campus. Sign up to find a carpool partner at McMaster, gain access to free resources such as the Emergency Ride Home Program, and chances to win great prizes!

COMMUTING – Sustainable transportation is important to McMaster University. Several alternative methods of commuting are made available across campus for McMaster faculty and staff.
