Pulse at PACE Program – Move More During Your Workday!

If you are looking for an energizing way to stay active and boost your well-being, the Pulse at PACE program is for you! This is an employee well-being initiative designed exclusively for McMaster faculty and staff in collaboration with our partners in Athletics & Recreation and is sponsored by Sun Life.

Program Details

  • When: Mondays & Wednesdays | 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., until April 29, 2026
  • Where: Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE), Ivor Wynne Centre Room E114 (see directions here)
  • Who Can Join: All full-time and part-time McMaster employees
  • Cost: This program is sponsored by Sun Life and there is no cost for you to participate
  • Pre-registration is required (see below) — reserve your workout session and bring your employee ID

Please note that the Pulse at PACE program will not be available during the following weeks: January 5 – 9, 2026 (First week of classes), February 16 – 20, 2026 (Winter Reading Week), and March 16 – 20, 2026 (March Break).

About the Program

This is a pilot project running during the winter term on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and employees must register in advance in order to attend.

The Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) offers a welcoming, research-informed environment with

  • Access to fully equipped fitness facility featuring treadmills, stair-climbers, stationary bikes, arc trainers, and Nu-Step machines.
  • State-of-the-art strength training equipment, free weights, resistance bands, and raised exercise mats.
  • Locker rooms and change facilities (bring your own lock).
  • Support from knowledgeable Athletics & Recreation staff to help you feel confident and safe while you exercise.

Program Registration

Physical Activity Centre of Excellence

The Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) features more than 50 pieces of exercise training equipment, including treadmills, stair-climbers, stationary bicycles, arc trainers, and nu-steps. There is also state-of-the-art strength training equipment, as well as free weights, resistance bands, and raised exercise mats.

The Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) is located on the main floor of the Ivor Wynne Centre at room E114. Detailed directions on how to find their facility are provided on the PACE website. This helpful map is also available for your convenience.

The Winter Pulse at PACE program will be offered from Monday, January 12, 2026 until Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

The Pulse at PACE program is open on the following days of the week:

  • Mondays | 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Wednesdays | 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Faculty and staff can register for one-hour timeslots.

Please note that the Winter Pulse at PACE program will not be available during the following weeks:

Faculty and staff must pre-register for a workout timeslot. There is no limit to the number of timeslots participants can register for. You are welcome to sign up for all of the sessions you are available for at once, or register each time before you attend.

If you have to cancel, we kindly ask you do so as soon as possible by emailing wellbeing@mcmaster.ca so we can open up the timeslot for another person.

The Pulse at PACE program is generously sponsored by Sun Life, McMaster’s benefit provider and there is no cost for faculty or staff to participate.

The Pulse at PACE program is open to all full and part-time faculty and staff. Participants are asked to register in advance and provide their employee ID card to the front desk staff prior to beginning their workout.

During the first week of the Winter program (Monday, January 12 and Wednesday, January 14), Athletics & Recreation staff will offer an ‘Intro to the Program’ session and will be available to provide a tour of the facility, show participants how to use equipment, and answer any questions you may have about the facility, equipment, and exercises.

PACE staff will be available to assist you and answer questions at any session you book.

All faculty and staff participating in the Pulse at PACE program will have access to change facilities located on the first floor of the Ivor Wynne Centre. While lockers are available, employees must provide their own lock and are responsible for their own possessions.
