In line with industry best practices, McMaster University is conducting a retiree and spouse survivor audit to help ensure pension records remain accurate and up to date.
To support this initiative, the University has engaged Mercer (Canada) Limited (“Mercer”), a leading pension and benefits consulting firm, to conduct the audit on its behalf.
Beginning the week of September 14, 2026, Mercer will mail letters to retirees and spouse survivors who are currently receiving payments from a McMaster University pension plan and whose pension payments commenced before January 1, 2025. Individuals who began receiving pension payments on or after January 1, 2025, will not be included in this audit.
Recipients are asked to review the information provided and respond by the due date outlined in the letter. Those who do not respond to the initial mail will receive follow-up communications, including a second letter and a final notice sent by registered mail.
Retirees and spouse survivors who receive a letter from Mercer are encouraged to respond promptly to ensure their pension information remains current and accurate. If you have any questions on how to complete the form, please reach out directly to Mercer at the toll-free number provided in the letter.
