News to Use – April 2022

News to Use is a monthly summary of HR information for all employees of McMaster University.
Health & Safety Week – Safety and Health Week is an annual occupational health and safety celebration that focuses on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace and raises understanding and awareness of safety and health issues. Environmental and Occupational Health Support Services (EOHSS) would like to thank our Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) members and recognize their efforts to keep the McMaster community safe. The committee’s commitment to workplace safety is truly appreciated. Check out the HR Events webpage to learn about the events happening the week of May 2.
Mental Health Awareness Week – During Mental Health Week (May 2 – 8), McMaster will offer employee wellness sessions and resources. For more information on Mental Health week at McMaster, please visit the employee well-being webpage. This year’s theme of Mental Health Week is all about empathy. #GetReal about how to help. We may be different, but that doesn’t make us rivals. Let’s stop polarizing and start empathizing. Be there for each other when times are hard and be ready to listen. You don’t have to agree to understand, and you don’t have to fix it to help.
2021 Annual Presidents Awards – The President’s Awards for Outstanding Service provide an annual recognition of employees who have made outstanding contributions. Learn more about our Nominees and Recipients for 2021. All members of the McMaster community are encouraged to attend a reception to honour this year’s nominees and recipients of the President’s Awards for Outstanding Service in 2021.
