News to Use is a monthly summary of HR information for all employees of McMaster University
International Travel Assistance Program – McMaster University is introducing a new international travel assistance provider in support of faculty and staff who may be travelling on University-related business. The new provider HX Global, a parent company of Healix International, and will replace the current provider International SOS. HX Global is a global leader in safety and travel assistance worldwide with comprehensive and integrated solutions to provide to access care when needed, wherever you are globally, 24-7-365. One call will instantly provide access to real time information, advice, and support in the event of natural disasters or severe weather, civil unrest, lost wallets or passports, and other emergencies that may be encountered when travelling. (Note that the out-of-province medical emergency benefit coverage for employees and their dependents has not changed. For any medical emergency while travelling on personal or University-related business, it is important to contact Sun Life.)
Employee and Family Assistance Program Survey: Coming Soon – To ensure the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is meeting our community’s diverse needs, a survey will be launched to capture feedback on employees’ experience with the current program as offered by Homewood. Suggestions are also welcomed on what you would like to see from an Employee and Family Assistance Program in the future. Staff and Faculty will receive an email in their inbox in the coming weeks. All responses will be anonymous.
New Employee Orientation Program – The McMaster New Employee Orientation Program (NEO) is a virtual experience that serves as a warm welcome for new employees to the university. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the University’s mission, structure, culture and key services that will help you to acclimate to the McMaster community.

Register Now: August Wellness Series – McMaster University, Human Resources, Employee Well-Being has partnered with McMaster Continuing Education to offer a 3-part online wellness series aimed at helping listeners discover a new conception of wellbeing – one that is realistic and achievable, given the complex personal and professional challenges of the world today.
Participants may attend one, two or all three featured sessions:
- Moving From Grief and Loss to Hope and Renewal
- A Conversation with “Resilience Explorer”, Janet Fanaki
- New Hope for Canadian Caregivers
