News to Use is a monthly summary of HR information for all employees of McMaster University.
Tax Season Reminders – Employee T2200S forms will be distributed by March 31, 2022. These forms will be distributed via the McMaster payroll email address “HR-Tax-Forms”. Please save the attachment for your records.
Frequently Asked Tax Questions – 2021 T4 remuneration slips are now available to McMaster employees through Mosaic employee self-service. Here are the most frequently asked questions that we have been receiving in the past few weeks.
Question: Who is eligible to receive T2200S in 2022?
Answer: McMaster will automatically provide a T2200S form to all employees that are currently in a position that allowed them to perform their work from home during the 2021 calendar year. Employees in positions that couldn’t perform their work from home will not automatically receive a T2200S form but can contact HR Operations should one be required.
Question: Do former employees have access to 2021 T4 slip(s)?
Answer: Yes, former employees will have access to review and print electronic T4 slip(s) via Mosaic for a period of 18 months from the last date of employment with McMaster.
Question: Why did the T4 income reported on my 2021 T4 slip decrease when compared to the 2020 T4 slip?
Answer: McMaster pays employees on each bi-weekly basis; in 2020, employees on the staff pay run received payroll payments on 27 pay dates vs 26 pay dates in 2021.
Question: Why is my income reported in Box 14 greater than my YTD salary as shown on my last pay statement in 2021?
Answer: Earnings reported in Box 14 on T4 slips include the total taxable income an employee received in each given year. Box 14 includes regular earnings and other income, i.e. vacation pay, stipends and taxable benefits employee received for the year.
Retirement Planning Resources – If you are thinking about retirement, there are many resources and free workshops available to help in planning for retirement. The Pension Portal can provide estimate information to active members of the Salaried Pension Plan 2000 via the Employee Self Service page in Mosaic. Employees who participate in the University’s Group RRSP can review their investments and account balances at any time by accessing the Desjardins site.
Health and Safety Award of Excellence 2022 – Nominations are now open for the Health and Safety Award of Excellence 2022 which is presented to a person or group from the McMaster community who has done an outstanding job of promoting health and safety in the workplace over and above their normal work duties. This award is open to all McMaster employees and students. Learn more and access the nomination form in this article.

Did you Know? – From April 1 to May 1, many McMaster employees will be observing Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. During this time, many Muslims will fast during the day refraining from drinking liquids, eating and smoking. Supervisors and employees are encouraged to connect to discuss flexibility needed during this time.
