Offered through the University Libraries:

  • SESSION FULL: Experience Virtual Reality with our VR Headset: Discover what makes the Lyons New Media Centre unique with a guided tour of our innovative spaces and services. From creative studios to non-traditional resources, you’ll see how we support learning and collaboration in new ways. Plus, you’ll get the chance to try out our VR headsets for an immersive experience.
  • SESSION FULL: Watercolour Painting Drop-In Crafting: Students will assist us with setting up for a watercolor painting drop-in event (setting up workstations for event participants and laying out/organizing materials), assisting with the event (greeting and asking attendees to fill out our sign-in form when they arrive, leading attendees from front door to watercolour workstations), create a watercolor painting themselves (enjoy the activity!), check in with attendees to make sure they have everything they need and alerting Makerspace staff should anything be requested, and to help us clean up after the event (tidy, organize and ensure all items used are in their proper storage locations).
  • Journey into the Archives: Journey into the fascinating world of archives, where history is preserved, stories are shared, and cultural heritage comes to life! This session will explain what archives are and explores the role that archivists and archives professionals play in preserving our collective memory (spoiler: we are not archaeologists). Hosted by the Health Sciences Archives, students will enjoy a hands-on show and tell featuring unique materials from the collection, followed by an interactive activity that brings archival work to life. Learn more and register here.
  • Backstage at the Library: Cool Careers You Didn’t Know About: Think libraries are just about books? Step behind the scenes and try out mini activities that show how library staff work with tech, history, research, marketing, and design. You’ll explore hidden jobs within the library you never knew existed. Learn more and register here.
  • Explore the World Through Maps: Join Saman Goudarzi, Cartographic Resources Librarian, for a guided activity and discussion on how all maps, in essence, distort reality. Learn why no map is truly accurate and explore the implications of these distortions in how we understand the world. Learn more and register here.

Offered Through the Faculty of Engineering:

  • Rocket Kinematics Workshop: Mac Eng’s Community Outreach is hosting a Rocket Kinematics workshop. During this 1.5-hour activity students will be able to use teamwork, the engineering design process and cost analysis to create landing gear for a 3D printed rocket to the best of their abilities. This will develop problem solving skills as well as collaboration. By comparing designs at the end of the project and discussing strategies that worked best, students will be able to learn about different ways of creating a product that is meant to achieve the same task and the creative components involved. Furthermore, students will work with the kinematics physics equation to also determine the final velocity of their rocket! Learn more and register here.

Housing & Conference Services:

  • “Maintenance Mystery Station”: An interactive, hands-on experience designed to introduce kids to the “behind-the-scenes” work of residence maintenance and facilities management. Kids will rotate through a series of fun, mini challenges that simulate real maintenance tasks and problem-solving scenarios. Learn more and register here.

Offered Through the Faculty of Health Sciences

  • Step into the fascinating world of anatomy!   This interactive experience brings science to life, allowing students to explore the inner workings of the human body. From bones to muscles, organs to systems, participants will uncover how the parts fit and function together.  Perhaps some special fossils and primate surprises!  Learn more and register here.
