What is Job Evaluation?
Job evaluation is a systematic review and comparison of jobs to assess their relative value. The outcome of job evaluation is an internal rank of jobs which provides the basis for establishing a fair and equitable pay structure. Job evaluation considers the responsibilities, required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.
When does a job need to be evaluated?
Jobs are evaluated when:
- A new job has been designed.
- An existing position has undertaken a significant change(increase or decrease) in responsibilities and accountabilities since it was last evaluated.
- A department or unit is reorganized.
- As part of the regular updating and periodic review of job descriptions to ensure that job descriptions to do not become out of date.
Who evaluates jobs?
The Total Rewards team supports hiring managers through the job evaluation process. Jobs are evaluated by designated committees based on the applicable employee group. Temporary/casual/interim jobs are evaluated by the Total Rewards team.
