National Payroll Week
September 20 to 24 is National Payroll Week, in which we recognize and celebrate the dedication, expertise and valuable contributions of payroll professionals across Canada.
McMaster’s payroll professionals from the HR Operations team – including payroll services, workforce data administration, taxation and compliance, the client advisory team, and administrators from each department involved in the payroll process – ensure that the University’s 11,000+ employees which include faculty members, staff including sessional lecturers, administrative staff, teaching and graduate assistants, and casual employees, receive on-time, correct pay.
Working together, the teams:
- Deliver payroll subject specific expertise and exemplary customer service to our employees, community and external stakeholders;
- Provide day-to-day workforce data administration with efficiency and accuracy; timely delivery of bi-weekly payroll processing for the university while ensuring operational and compliance commitments are met;
- Administer and file third-party remittances such as taxes, CPP, EI, benefits, union dues, pension, RRSPs and more that are withheld and from employee pay and paid to the appropriate organization;
- Provide payroll reports internally and externally, including the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Service Canada, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and unions; and
- Process more than 250,000 paycheques, 19,000 tax slips, 4,300 leaves of absence and 8,770 Records of Employment each year.
By observing National Payroll Week, we raise awareness of McMaster’s payroll processes, educate our colleagues about how their income, taxes and contributions are calculated, and showcase how to get the most out of our pay.
To help celebrate, the Canadian Payroll Association is hosting free virtual events and challenges for payroll professionals across Canada. Please visit the I am Payroll website to learn more and to register.
To everyone involved with pay processing across McMaster, thank you for your critical contributions to our University. Happy National Payroll Week!
